Ponderings

Psalm 46:10-11
10Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!
11The LORD of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah

These verses are such a comfort. A few weeks ago I struggled with medicine induced emotions, following a severe allergy attack. Twice I “accidentally” opened to this Psalm when I opened God’s Word for my devotions. The Psalm begins with the promise that “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” And then the writer asks us to be still and know. If I’m busy, rushing around, it’s hard to know anything except what is on my mind at that minute. It is only when I am still that I start to know what God has to tell me.

Things might be falling down around me. The waters may roar, as they are doing in the hurricanes down south, and the mountains may tremble, but God is still on His throne. He is still in control. The Lord of hosts is with us. The God of Jacob is our refuge.

But to know this I must be still. Listen for His Word-let it speak to my heart.

In the quiet. When no one else is around.

Be still.
