The Green-Eyed Monster
Once upon a time there were two sisters. The older sister was plain but gifted. The younger was beautiful but her talents were mediocre at best.
The older one took up a writing career and within two years had sold her first novel. A few years later, she was the author of several books, had won numerous awards, and was consistently on the bestseller’s list.
The younger one took up writing as well, planning to follow in her sister’s footsteps. She wrote book after book, but ten years later, still had no book contract.
The older one kept writing, but all of the fame and accolades in the world could not quench the longing for something she did not have. Something her sister had in spades. Their mother’s love.
The younger one kept writing too, and her longings became demands that no one could meet. She became morose and bitter, refusing to pick up her sister’s latest book or acknowledge her status as a well-loved author. She didn’t care that she was beautiful or that she had married a wealthy man and was loved beyond reason. All she could see was her sister’s success and what she deemed her own failure.
And all that her sister could see was what she didn’t have. All the accolades, all the hard-backed copies of her books that lined her shelves, all the praises and fan letters and outrageous advances in the world could not quench the feeling that she was missing something of vast importance.
Both sisters were poisoned by the green-eyed monster. Both wore jealousy as a badge and neither could surrender the pain.
Which one do you think finally found contentment? Can you guess who these people are?
I’ll explain tomorrow…:)
